COVID-19 PCR Test
Receive your COVID-19 PCR Test In Staten Island
COVID-19 continues to affect New York residents, including those here in Staten Island. To protect you and your loved ones, the CDC and the New York State Department of Health recommend frequent COVID-19 testing to guard against the spread of the virus. Onecare Health- Advanced Practice and Wellness is dedicated to providing comprehensive, affordable care to patients in need by offering reliable COVID-19 PCR testing to those in our community.
What is a COVID-19 PCR test?
Three different assessments are currently approved to evaluation for a COVID-19 infection. These include the Rapid COVID-19 Antigen test, the COVID-19 Antibody test, and the COVID-19 PCR Test. The PCR test is the most accurate test currently approved for use by the CDC. This test provides higher sensitivity and specificity than the antigen or antibody tests also used to detect COVID-19. Because of this heightened sensitivity, tests results are not rapidly available as they are in the antigen test.
How much will the test cost me?
COVID-19 testing in New York is a service covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. How does the PCR test work?
Testing procedure is simple. To perform a COVID-19 PCR test, your healthcare provider will collect a nasal swab, buccal swab or saliva sample. We will then take this sample and send it to one of our partnered clinical full reference labs for evaluation. Depending on current demand or testing volume, results should be available in 1-3 days.
Does the test hurt?
We understand concerns of discomfort, or feelings of anxiety expressed by patients receiving COVID-19 testing. As part of our mission, our team is devoted to providing gentle and informed care to all.
Some patients have reported very brief discomfort, or watering eyes during the collections of a nasal swab. Saliva samples do not typically result in discomfort. Patients concerned about pain or irritation caused by nasal swabbing should ask about providing a saliva or buccal swab sample instead.
